There are plenty of places to walk your dog in and around Markelo. For example, there are several off-leash areas in the De Borkeld nature reserve, where dogs are allowed to run off-leash on certain trails. It is also often permitted on the Markeloseberg and in the rural areas of the municipality of Hof van Twente, though you should always pay attention to the signs.
